The Lonely Place of Prayer

“Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:15-16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The last kiss was given and I drove away. My four oldest children are back in school and the day ahead of me feels like clouds parting and the sunshine of opportunity spreading out before me.

I have a list of everything I need to get caught up on but in my eagerness to get busy, I remember Luke 5:15.  “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
I have some space in my schedule but I need to first fill it with a set time to pray. It is lonely, it is hard to be disciplined, it is less exciting than returning my daughters shirt to the department store, calling my mom, picking up prescriptions at the pharmacy and bringing the truck in for a tire rotation. I thrive on motion, but Jesus is calling. He’s so faithful to remind me to come away and find stillness and quiet and to be with Him.
Today, I must remember to withdraw from my activities and find that lonely place of solitude and prayer.  I need to build my day around this pivotal time and not simply hope I can squeeze in a few prayers between errands. How about you?  Is it a struggle to find solitude and prayer?
